Being a Christian is not just about believing in Jesus, but is about being transformed and made new. Much of Chrisianity today is about a feel good sensation with no renewal needed as “God loves you anyways.” Although the statement is true, as God does love us regardless, this does not nesecarrily mean we are saved. God loves even those that are not saved, and yet they remained unsaved due to the fact of not only not believing in Jesus, but no regeneration of the spirit.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
II Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
If we believe in Jesus, and yet there is no change within us, we then must reevualte our walk with God. When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts and ask for forgiveness of sins, we have then just been covered by the blood of Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit enters we then become convicted of sin that we did not realize before and we, overtime, become a new creation in Christ while leaving behind the old life and ways.
If we continue to live after the old life and ways of doing things after accepting Christ, we may have not truly accepted Him. If there is no change then there is no Spirit dwelling within, and without the Spirit we can not live to please God as we should. This is not to say we will not ever sin, but we will present change by the renewing of our spirit by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Transformation is not an option when living for Christ.
Sometimes when we accept Christ and are not transformed, a lot of times, is because we do not truly want the transformation set within our life. We are still wanting to live the old life while trying to experience the rewards of a life with Christ, but the two can not work together. To experience the fullness of a life with Christ we must give Him our all and fully surrender to Him. At that moment we will experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit working in us, but only when we put our old life to death and give ourselves completely to Jesus.
“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJV
Where do you stand today? Have you ask Jesus to come into your life and yet have not experienced the transforming power of the Holy Spirit within? Let go of the old life and old person and allow the fullness of the Holy Spirit to enter in and transform you into a new creation in Christ.
