Many people speak about freedom today, and yet most do not understand what true freedom really is. People march, protest and riot to obtain their “idea” of freedom. But what is true freedom and how does one go about obtaining it?
“But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.”
Romans 6:22 NKJV
Let me first start out by pointing out that no matter what we are set to be slaves and servants of something or someone. I hear people talk about how they are free and slaves of nothing, and yet they are trapped to obey their own bodily desires. I see people becoming slaves to music and movie stars, politicians, groups, false religions and cults and the list goes on. With all their trying to escape they are still slaves to something or someone.
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36 NKJV
What it all boils down to is you are either a slave of God or of the world. The term slave is more of a meaning of being conformed to and serve. Are you conformed to God and serve Him? Or are you conformed to the world and serve the world? No matter what we serve something or someone, but there is only one who can truly give us freedom; Jesus Christ.
This does not mean we will not struggle and stumble from time to time, but it means we are enabled to stand when we do fall and move forward in the grace of God when we stumble. This can only be accomplished by a full submission to the Lord and His will and allowing His Spirit to take full control. At this point we can live a life of true freedom as we walk through this dark life, shining forth the light of Christ to the lost.
