God wants us to live humbled lives just as Jesus lived humbled during His time here on earth. We are called to be humble servants, not only to God, but others as well. Living in a humbled manner helps us shine forth God’s love to others. The only way in which we can excel in Christ by being humble and the only way we can live humbled lives in by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7 NKJV).
Living humble lives is a difficult thing for us to do and that is why it is so important to have a close relationship with the Lord as His Spirit fills us, and therefore enables us to accomplish this. Our fleshly nature wants to resist a humbled walk, and rather seeks to promote self in pride over others. Our flesh does not want to submit, but instead resist the work of the Spirit in our lives.
At this point we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross daily and ask that the Holy Spirit dwell within our hearts and minds and transform us into the image of Christ. Only then can we truly and fully live a life after God in a humbled, servant like manner. We can then help people in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord and that glorifies Him to the utmost.
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” (Philippians 2:3).
It is truly amazing when the work of the Holy Spirit begins to work in your life, especially when it comes to humbling ourselves. God puts us in situations that, when utilized correctly, can produce fruit through and in us. We have to be in tuned with the Spirit enable to see situations in which the Lord is trying to transform us as the Spirit reveals to us the goal behind the situation. Some situations and scenarios are more difficult than others depending upon the area of change, but if we are willing to humble ourselves and follow the call of the Spirit, we then can reap the fruit that is produced through it.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
God is good and all things work out for the good to those that are called His. Each and every situation that we may be in is a time of renewal and teaching through the Spirit. It is our job to humble ourselves and allow the good work to be done through us. There are also times that people need our help and advice and it is our job to approach them in a humbled and loving manner that represents the true nature of Christ, and this, of course can only be accomplished through the cleansing of the blood of Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit working in and through our lives. Where do you stand today? Are you humbling yourself before God as you walk with Him through this life?
