The Choice Is Yours

Yesterday I did a sermon on the Genesis 2 and 3 and went over the power of choice. In the beginning we were given choice by God by placing the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the garden. Even today we are faced with the same choice to either follow after God by believing in Jesus Christ or to follow after the world. It all comes down to choice and ultimately the choice is yours.

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15 NKJV).

God wanted us to have free will in order to truly have a relationship with us by us wanting to be with Him and return His love with our own. God respects our choice as to whether or not we choose to love Him and serve Him or to go our own way. But as with any choice there are also consequences that result from our choices. Action results and outcome, and with that being said, it is so important to choose wisely.

I had an old friend one day ask me that if God were so loving, why would he put people in hell? My answer is short, “He does not put people in hell, people choose to go there.” Hell was not made for people, but rather for Lucifer and his angels. God respects our choice so much so that if we choose to not love Him, then He will leave us be and not force us into choosing Him. He will, though, go ahead and put influences around us in hopes that we may choose differently, but that is as far as He will go.

This respect of choice is an awesome and wonderful thing of God as He loves us so much so that He wants us to have freedom of choice as to how we want to live and who we want to live for. God is love and expects love in return, and so when we choose to not return the love and to rather follow our own ways (which is the ways that Lucifer followed too), then we must also accept the fact that we will not ultimately be with Him since we do not love Him.

Podcast: Genesis 2 and 3

“Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil.” (Proverbs 4:25-27).

Choice is a powerful thing as it directs our steps with every word, thought, and action being put into work and ultimately guiding us to where we want to be. We are faced with a choice today as to where we are headed at the end of this life. The choice we make for this life directs our steps unto the next, eternal life. We can either choose to follow God and be led to Him into eternity, or we can choose to follow self and be led into the Pit with the devil. God loves us and wants us to all be with him, but he respects our choice and the choice is ours. What and who do you choose today? The choice is yours.
