Do Not Follow

I just recently drove my sister back to Colorado Springs from our home in Fort Worth, Texas. The weather was cold on the way up with every fifty miles or so bring a drop in a degree or two. Everything was ship shape till we reach Amarillo, where a snow storm blew through the night before leaving remnants of ice and slush on the road along with glistening snow in every direction.

All in all still not too bad until we reached New Mexico. Here is where we met a lot of ice as well as a white out. Now, of course me being an old pro motocrosser I tend to blow through things with little thought. As the roads worsened, so did areas of traffic. The interesting part here, though, was the fact that there were two lanes with only one being used.

At this moment most of you reading this are like, “Duh! There is ice on the road!” I agree it was a bit dangerous, but I could not help myself. Each time we pulled up to a small group of following zombies I would move to the path not taken and blow past them in a throttle steady manner, while leaving everyone far behind. The thought of following everyone for miles as the storm worsened while going only 40 mph in a 70 mph stretch was too much.

Now you may be wondering where I am going with this, or hopefully you have a bit of an idea from the title and the picture I just painted. Jesus called us to follow only One, and that is Christ Himself. Besides that we are to be ourselves and get out of the rut that many tend to follow. This is a great practice of the world as they follow one another and imitate every celebrity under the sun. We are called to pull into the path not taken and move steadily past the followers of the world.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” (Matthew 7:13 NKJV).

As Christians we are called to much more than this. We are called to be individually unique while following Jesus Christ and the prompting of the Holy Spirit upon our lives. This prompting and calling is an individual call in which we all have our own paths created by God to keep us from following one another. The more we walk down this path, the more we should become our own person in Christ.

While we walk down our own individual paths created by God, we also are united through this walking and living of individuality by the striving towards the same goal of proclaiming the gospel, and seeking to please and glorify God above all. Not only does this same goal getting unite us as a whole, but the covering of the blood of Christ and the binding of the Holy Spirit working through our lives bring us together as well.

“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” (Romans 12:4-5).

Podcast: End Time Updates

I am not sure where you stand today. I am not sure whether you are following Christ down the path He has called you on or just following someone else that does not know where their going either. Let us seek to follow the calling of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to transform us into our own person in Christ, while at the same time being united in the Spirit and love of God. Continue moving forward without fear while leaning on God and His word with every step taken. God bless!
