We use the phrase “God is greater” quite often without and outside the church, but do we completely understand it? We say, “God is greater than my problems!” And this is true, and yet He is much more than that. We say, “God is greater than my enemies!” And yes this is true also and more. To fully grasp how great God is we must turn to scripture with a little mix of theological thinking added in.
“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Job 33:4 NKJV).
God is greater in every aspect that one can think up. He is the giver and sustainer of all life everywhere, without Him there would be nothing. God is all and in Him all things consist. When we begin to truly delve into how big the Lord really is we then begin to grasp a tiny atom of understanding of how great He is.
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:16-17)
The Universe is old and vast standing roughly 14 billion years old and at a distance now believed to be somewhere in the ball park of 96 billion light years across, and yet this is only the observable points. No matter where you went within this sphere of contained life, there is no where you could escape the sight and hand of God. He is everywhere at all times. Now try and fathom that for a moment and you will begin to grasp a bit of how great is our God.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” (Psalms 139:7-8).
The most amazing part of the goodness of God is the fact that He is for us. He always has our best interest in mind and continuously guides us to where we need to be and what He wants us to do, as long as we set our sights on Him and acknowledge Him in all that we do. God wants what is best for us while at the same time bringing Him glory and pleasure. When we feel down, He is there. When we feel afraid, He is there. If we fall, He is there to help us up.
“If I say, ‘My foot slips,’ Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.” (Psalms 94:18).
We have to let go of fear and worry. We need to set our sights on Jesus and allow Him to guide us to the place He wants us to be. We need to praise God for all His goodness and come to a full realization and appreciate of how great God really is. No matter what may come your way today, God is with you and for you. No matter where you may be in life, God is there with you and will lift you up when you call on Him. Keep faith, keep focus, and keep God at the center of it all.
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to seperate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39).
