Sometimes It Is Best To Just Be A Turtle

In a world of offense and cry babies, it is sometimes best to just be a turtle. Of all the animals, why a turtle? Turtles are tough buggers with a soft inside, but a hard exterior. Many today could learn a lot from examining a turtle. They move slow, and yet continuously progress. The most aggressive of beasts can attack them and most of the time not even phase the turtle.

“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16 NKJV).

I believe today we have the sequence all backwards with being hard on the inside while soft on the outside. Everything offends us, and yet we do not care anything about anyone else. People everywhere seem to be bitter on the inside and little sissies on the outside. “I’m offended, but I do not care about you!” Is the shout of people living today.

We need to reverse this way of living, maybe not for everyone, but at least for our own sake and hope to be an example to people around us. Jesus was the perfect turtle example. He was never moved by his adversaries, and yet he was moved with compassion. He stood against injustice, not for himself, but for others. He was tough on the outside while loving and caring on the inside.

Jesus gave us the perfect example for us to follow and I say let us follow! The turtle, I am convinced, was put here by God to give us a natural example of what one needs to learn from. You might move slow, but you move with purpose and integrity. You might get caught by enemies from time to time, but your hard exterior can help protect you from getting battered.

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13).

The world can be sissies and haters, but as followers of Christ we need to be tough while loving. We need to slowly keep chiseling away at the enemy as we continue to spread the word of God to the lost. We need to not let words hurt us and instead allow the word of God to be the only words that penetrate our minds and hearts. Be a turtle and let the rest of the world bitter. Let us shine forth the light of Christ to the lost world around us in the year 2017 like never before.
