Life Is Too Short

The more I age, the more I think about life and death. I know that death is only a means of moving from this life to the next, but it still is a nerve racking thought. I recently had a couple of old motocross racing buddies pass that were the same age as myself, and it really got me thinking about the life and death concept a little more than usual to say the least. For me personally the death part is not as scary as the life part and the reason being is I am more afraid to not fully live than to face death itself.

As I previously stated that I do know that once death does visit, I will be forever with the Lord in His kingdom with loved ones. But the main part is the fact that sometimes I do not feel as though I am living this life enough. What I mean by this is not a factor of traveling, doing crazy things or anything of that sort, but instead the fact that just simply living life and enjoy the blessings is where I usually fall short.

“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalms 118:24).

With ADHD on my side I tend to bounce all over the place and unfortunately miss out on a lot of different things if I would just slow down for a moment. I tend to hyper focus really well, but sometimes it leads me to focus so much on one thing that I miss out on other important things in life.

My daughter is about to be 16 months old and I feel as though she is moving too fast for me to keep up. I want more time with her, and yet when I do get time with her I end up thinking about other things while with her. Problems, work, people, and the list goes on as the thoughts and worries that cross my mind, and of course the ADHD factor really helps out in this scenario.

What I’m getting at from my scattered rant is the fact that life is too short to be worrying. At this moment you’re probably telling me, “Ya and tell me something new.” Let me go a little deeper with is and say that life is too short to be focused on unnecessary things. Life is too short to be thinking about work or problems while spending time with loved ones.

“I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor-it is the gift of God.” (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NKJV).

We spend so much time worrying, thinking, and calculating that before we know it we are only surviving life and not thriving. We are just getting by instead of living. Before we know it we are calculating how to make more money for the family when a semi smashes into your car and you’re dead.

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.” (Luke 21:34).

Now I’m not trying to be harsh by no means, but I do speak to myself as well and sometimes I can be a little hard on myself. We need to let go and let God handle things. We need to stop focusing on surviving and start living. Cherish the moments with loved ones before they or you are gone. Spend alone time with the Lord each day and come to know Him before you meet Him in the kingdom. Stop complaining and let it go. Stop focusing on nonsense and start enjoying the life that the good Lord has blessed you with before it is all gone. God is good, so enjoy life and all the goodness that He bestows upon you. God bless!
